The History of Archontiko Suites in Santorini

A Building with Maritime History
Archontiko Suites is a historic neoclassical building in Fira, Santorini, with nearly two centuries of rich history. Built using locally sourced solid black volcanic rock, the structure has withstood major earthquakes and volcanic activity, a testament to its exceptional craftsmanship and durability. Its thick walls, ranging from 80 cm to 1 meter, have preserved the building almost untouched by time.
Due to its unique location on the caldera, Archontiko offered a rare panoramic vantage point across Santorini, with uninterrupted views stretching from the northern to the southwestern sea passages. This strategic position led to its use as a port authority and customs observation point, making it an important part of the island’s maritime history.
The building has remained in our family for generations, carefully preserved with respect to its heritage and character. This continuity reflects a deep connection to the history of Santorini and a commitment to maintaining its legacy.
Located next to the iconic Church of Saint Minas, one of the most photographed landmarks in Santorini, Archontiko holds a unique place in the island’s visual identity. The church, often described as the “Acropolis of Santorini,” has inspired travelers, artists, and photographers for decades.
In recent years, the property has been thoughtfully restored, most recently in 2014, combining its historic character with modern comfort. Today, Archontiko Suites features three exclusive luxury suites—Santorini, Kallisti, and Thira—each designed to offer privacy, elegance, and breathtaking caldera views.
For over 28 years, Archontiko Suites has welcomed guests from around the world, offering a unique experience that blends history, location, and refined hospitality in the heart of Fira.
Staying at Archontiko Suites is more than accommodation—it is an opportunity to experience the authentic history of Santorini in one of its most privileged locations.
