Travelling from Santorini Airport to Fira? Discover all transfer options — taxi, bus, private transfer — with journey times, costs and insider tips for a smooth arrival. How to Get from Santorini Airport to Fira You have just landed at Santorini International Airport
"Thira" (JTR) and the island is waiting. But how do
you get from the airport to Fira — the island's
vibrant capital and one of its most popular bases?
Here is a complete guide to all your transfer options,
with journey times, costs and tips to make your
arrival as smooth as possible.
1. ✈️ Santorini Airport — The Basics Santorini Airport is located in the eastern part of the island, approximately 6 kilometres from Fira. Despite its small size, the airport handles millions of passengers during the summer season and can get busy — especially during peak hours in July and August. The journey from the airport to Fira takes between 10 and 20 minutes depending on your chosen mode of transport and traffic conditions. 2. 🚗 Option 1 — Private Transfer (Recommended) A private transfer is without doubt the best way to get from Santorini Airport to Fira — and the option we strongly recommend to all our guests. Your driver will be waiting at arrivals with a name sign, assist with your luggage and take you directly to your accommodation in comfort and style. No waiting, no sharing, no stress. Journey time: 10–12 minutes. Fixed rate: from €30 for up to 2 passengers. At Archontiko Suites, we arrange private transfers directly for our guests at a fixed, guaranteed rate. Simply contact us via WhatsApp at +30 6938 303821 before your arrival and we will take care of everything. This is particularly recommended for couples, honeymooners and travellers with luggage — start your Santorini experience the right way, from the very first moment you land. 3. 🚕 Option 2 — Taxi The public bus service (KTEL) is the most affordable way to reach Fira from the airport. Journey time: 15–20 minutes. Fare: approximately €1.80 per person. The bus stop is just outside the terminal and buses run regularly during the day in peak season. Important: The bus drops you at Fira's central bus station. From there, caldera properties involve a walk on cobblestone paths — not ideal with heavy luggage. For a comfortable arrival, a private transfer remains the better option.
